Animal Surrender

At Middleburg Humane Foundation (MHF), we understand that surrendering a beloved pet is a deeply emotional and challenging decision. Everyone's circumstances are unique, so our goal is to provide a compassionate and supportive process for both you and your pet.

How We Can Help

Our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcome for every animal that comes into our care. We focus on finding loving, forever homes while providing each pet with the medical attention, nourishment, and kindness they deserve. To see if MHF can help rehome your pet, please fill out the application below.

Steps to Surrender Your Pet

  1. Contact Us:
Start by completing our Animal Surrender Application for your animal type. This helps us gather important information about your pet, including their medical history, behavior, and any special needs.

  2. Application Review:
Once we receive your application, our team will review it to ensure that your pet is a good candidate for our rehoming process. Our shelter space and resources are limited, so a thorough application review is a key step in allowing us to give each potential surrender case the attention it deserves.

  3. Surrender Day:
If we determine that MHF will be a good fit to rehome your pet, we will schedule a surrender appointment. On the day of your appointment, bring your pet’s veterinary records, vaccination history, and any personal items that may help them feel more comfortable, such as a favorite toy or blanket.

What to Expect

  • A caring, judgment-free environment.

  • A thorough assessment of your pet’s needs to ensure that MHF is the best placement option for your pet.

  • Updates on your pet’s progress if desired.
